Some nights in country music feel bigger than the stage, and Jamey Johnson and Megan Moroney’s MOJO benefit in Birmingham was one of them. The two artists teamed up for an intimate, sold-out show at The Social at the Fennec, turning a single evening into $315,000 raised for charity and reminding fans what country music does best: show up and give back.

The event, dubbed MOJO, a mash-up of Moroney and Johnson’s last names, brought roughly 260 fans into a rare, close-up experience with the artists. Stripped-down performances, shared storytelling, and classic covers like “Angel from Montgomery” and “Till the Rivers All Run Dry” made the night feel personal, emotional, and unforgettable.
But the music was only part of the story. Proceeds from the night benefited the Give It Away Foundation, founded by Johnson and his wife, Brittney, to help people facing hardship, and the Megan Moroney Foundation, which focuses on anti-bullying efforts and mental health awareness. It was philanthropy with purpose and heart.
A high-energy auction pushed the total even higher, with standout items including two alligator hunts that sold for $9,000 each and a hand-tooled saddle that sparked a bidding war, ultimately bringing in $28,000 on its own. Every bid reinforced the same message: this night mattered.

The collaboration also highlighted the real-life mentorship between Johnson and Moroney. Johnson was an early believer in Moroney, bringing her on tour in 2022 and supporting her journey to the Grand Ole Opry stage in 2023. That shared history made the night feel less like a performance and more like a full-circle moment.
In a genre built on storytelling, MOJO was a reminder that the most powerful stories do not always come from songs. Sometimes, they come from what artists choose to do with their platform, and in Birmingham, Johnson and Moroney chose to give back in a big way.
