When Megan Moroney dropped her new album Cloud 9, fans expected heartbreak lyrics and the signature emo cowgirl energy she’s built her brand around. What they didn’t expect? A song directly targeting Riley Green.

The song in question, “Who Hurt You,” immediately sent country TikTok into detective mode. Within hours of release, fans were lining up lyrics and dissecting them side by side. One line in particular grabbed attention:

“The devil went down to Georgia / Then he crossed the Bama line.”

Moroney is famously from Georgia. Green is famously from Alabama. For fans, that was not a coincidence.

Other lyrics only added fuel to the theory.

“I was blinded by the lies / And the manufactured smile.”“Hometown happy hours / The hand-delivered flowers / You looked me in the eyes and told me what was yours was ours.”

Then came the twist.

Not long after Cloud 9 was released, Riley Green teased and released a track titled “POS Like Me.” And suddenly, fans were comparing lyrics again. This time wondering if he was responding.

In “POS Like Me,” Green sings:

“You can drag every letter of my name / On a chain through the Mississippi mud…That I’m a lying, cheating, stealing son of a gun.” “You can call me every name, you can blame it all on me / You can say I’m an SOB, hell I might be.”

Instead of denying anything outright, the tone feels almost self-aware, like he’s leaning into the criticism. One lyric even adds a little humor to the mix:

“You hated my dog, I guess you hated my songs…Overall wearing piece of s** like me.”*

Fans quickly labeled it a possible musical clapback.

Neither artist has confirmed that the songs are about each other, and maybe they’re not. But in today’s version of country culture, confirmation almost isn’t necessary. The story unfolds in the fan conversation. Whether intentional or not, Cloud 9 has everyone talking, and the Megan versus Riley speculation has only pushed it further into viral territory.
