“Amarillo by morning”... Austin is where we’ll be this year. George Strait has announced two shows in Austin, Texas, at the Moody Center that will be very different. Not only is this a huge change from the stadium scene, but his stage will also be “in-the-round” style,

which will put him in the center of the audience. The press release states “an intimate evening of timeless hits” with a few tracks included in the set from his Cowboys and Dreamers album from 2024.

Originally, there were two dates planned for mid-April, but, lucky for us, two more dates for mid-May were announced. This comes after resale ticket prices have soared, expectedly to as little as $500 and to as much as $3,000 on Ticketmaster alone. However, the increased level of audience intimacy is what keeps us smiling while we empty our wallets.

Typically, Strait plays stadiums throughout his tours. For this reason, he set the U.S. record for the largest ticketed single concert with his show at Texas A&M’s Kyle Field in 2024, which had 110,905 attendees. This record has since been broken by Zach Bryan last year. Nevertheless, we might actually get to see the smile on the Troubadour’s face with our own eyes at this 15,000+ capacity venue, and we’re not upset about it.

Fellow Texas native, William Beckmann, will open for Strait each night. He cites the “Check Yes or No” singer influences his neotraditional country style mixed with elements of his Mexican and Southern roots.

George Strait’s legacy remains alive and well, especially in his home state of Texas. I think it’s safe to say he’s worthy of more than just the “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame,” like his recent Grammy nomination would suggest. We’ll be carrying our love from West Virginia down to Tennessee and from all across the country for these much-anticipated shows.
