It’s always nice to know that despite their differences, your favorite artists can still find common ground. This is the case for Kacey Musgraves and Miranda Lambert, two of country music’s best-selling female artists. It’s not quite a feud; however, both artists have voiced their lack of friendship with each other. Yet these two Grammy-winning artists have found areas of interest that bond them regardless.

Their tension began as far back as 2011, when Kacey Musgraves co-wrote “Mama’s Broken Heart” and originally intended for it to be her debut single. When Miranda Lambert wanted to cut the song, and overwhelming peer pressure fell on Musgraves, she gave up her single to Lambert. The song went on to be highly successful, reaching triple platinum on Four the Record (2011). Musgraves distanced herself after this interaction, going on to release the double platinum single, “Merry Go ‘Round,” as her debut single instead.

Videos have resurfaced from the 2013 CMAs, in which their distaste for each other became prevalent. Kacey Musgraves won new artist of the year after having released her Same Trailer Different Park (2013) album. Then, in a tough competition for Female Vocalist of the Year, Lambert beat Musgraves. In her acceptance speech, Lambert congratulated Musgraves on her earlier win in the night saying “East Texas girls gotta stick together” as the camera panned to Musgraves, who did not look happy.

Fast forward to earlier this month, Kacey Musgraves reposted the clip from 2013, writing, “You knew I’d said some things about you [eye roll emoji] Miranda Lambert.” Lambert reposted Musgraves’ clip, replying, “Well, I’ve done my fair share of s—t talkin’ too.” It would appear as though the hatchet has been buried now that the duo has also announced an upcoming collab titled “Horses and Divorces” to be released on Musgraves’ upcoming Middle of Nowhere studio album.

This comes as a great relief for us fans of both performers. We’re glad they were able to find these commonalities to create this humorous track, likely referencing their love for horses as well as their separate divorces to Blake Shelton in 2015 and Ruston Kelly in 2020. Though they are still maintaining their friendship is not clear; we can’t wait to hear the first duet from The Dime Store Cowgirl and The Fastest Girl in Town just before the start of summer.

Brace yourselves for this track, all about horses, divorces, and making amends.
