Megan Moroney officially kicked off her highly anticipated “Cloud 9” Tour this weekend in Columbus, Ohio, celebrating the release of her 2026 album Cloud 9. While, for fans, the opening night marked the start of a new era full of Megan-inspired concert outfits and TikToks using her songs as audio, for Megan herself there’s more at stake, as she’s received recent criticism for her music straying from true country and becoming “too” pop-adjacent.

With recent album drops and growing fame from powerhouses like Ella Langley and Kacey Musgraves, this tour could make or break Megan’s influence as a female role model in country music.

Although her setlist for the tour has yet to be released and will likely vary across tour stops, certain fans are definitely hoping she plays more of her older music from albums like Lucky and Am I Okay?, as they want to hold on to Megan’s authentic country era.

Her new album, Cloud 9, definitely marks a step in the pop direction, with fewer lyrical references to Southern states and country lifestyle themes. The album cover, featuring Megan in a bright pink dress surrounded by pink clouds, definitely resembles more of a Sabrina Carpenter-style “girly pop princess” vibe, as opposed to the more country-style cover of her first album, Lucky, where Megan poses in cowboy boots next to a jukebox.

While mixing genres and exploring different styles is not a bad thing at all, the country music community is notorious for being stubborn and picky when defining which artists they claim and do not claim as one of their own. The most famous example of this is Taylor Swift, who got her start in Nashville in country music but later made a dramatic shift into pop, disappointing many of her original fans.

So even though nobody really knows whether Megan plans to return to a more traditional country sound with future music or fully embrace her shift toward genre-blending, the “Cloud 9” Tour is sure to give fans more clues as to where she’s headed.

Either way, she’s definitely thriving, especially as shown in a recent viral video of her performing her song “Wonder” at her best friend’s wedding. So wherever the “Cloud 9” Tour takes her, she’s sure to have fun along the way.
