One performance on American Idol has rallied the live audience against previous winner and judge, Carrie Underwood, after the most recent airing. The house roared at Belmont University’s Fisher Center in Nashville after Underwood critiqued contestant, Mor for performing an original song, calling it a “missed opportunity.”

The 22-year-old contestant decided to perform an original song titled “How to Love You.” written about his late mother. While he was not the only one on this most recent season to perform an original song, this performance was so heart-melting that the audience had no choice but to defend the choice that Mor, himself, called a “gamble.”

“I’m just not sure that was the right song,” suggested Underwood to Mor before addressing the booing crowd, “you’re not included in the discussion.” Fellow judge, Luke Bryan, attempted to defend her, reminding the crowd of her winning Season 4, but was still met with the same dismay. Despite it being a group decision, Underwood faced the most backlash, being the one to voice the concern on the show and on X, where she said, “Boo me. I don’t care @americanidol.”

Obviously, Carrie Underwood was not “Blown Away” by the criticism or by Mor, as she made clear that he should’ve taken advantage of the band he could’ve utilized. To be fair, however, she did say, “Bring it on. I love it! Your boos are feeding me.”

Even though Mor has been eliminated, it’s unclear if the retaliation against the “Before He Cheats” has done the same. Will Underwood continue to view singing an original song on the show as a mistake, or will she change her tune? Doesn’t she know she’s in Nashville, where singers and songwriters are often the same?
