Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” Becomes First Country Song Ever Certified RIAA Double Diamond

Country music powerhouse Chris Stapleton has made history with his song, “Tennessee Whiskey”, as it becomes the first country song to be certified Double Diamond. Stapleton sold over 20 million units, marking him as the first country singer to have a song with Double Diamond certification. 

“Tennessee Whiskey” was originally recorded and performed by David Allan Coe. Stapleton recorded and released his version of the song in 2015 which quickly solidified him as a timeless country star. 

This accomplishment comes full circle for Stapleton as the 10th anniversary of his debut album, “Traveller”,  approaches. “Traveller” became ‘the best-selling country album of the 2010s”. His debut album also contains hits such as “Outlaw State of Mind” and “Fire Away". The powerhouse debut has gone platinum seven times in the U.S. and has billions of streams worldwide. 

Regarding the Double Diamond certification, Stapleton has expressed his humility and gratitude for the appreciation the song has received. He sees it as an indication of the power authentic music has. “I don’t pretend to know how to explain magic or how to use it", Stapleton said regarding the significance of authentically making music and connecting with fans. Stapleton shares how music speaks for itself.

Chris Stapleton is currently on tour, having just added new dates for 2026. The “All-American Road Show” contains stars such as Zach Top and Lainey Wilson at select shows and a successful turnout of fans since its announcement in 2017. Stapleton's new dates include new major stadiums across the country. Stapleton continues to have a massive draw of fans, even outperforming mainstream acts in certain venues.
