After over a month, country music superstar Jelly Roll is finally coming clean about an ATV accident that occurred in January. The singer, born Jason DeFord, took to Instagram on Sunday, explaining that he was hopping back on his previously totaled ATV for the first time since he flipped it.
In an Instagram post with the caption “I’ve been keeping a secret from y’all,” DeFord explained that he broke his collarbone in January during an ATV flip, just before he was slated to attend the Grammy Awards. The singer made a secret hospital visit, though he clarified he was still in pain during the ceremony.
“Every time I hugged somebody that week, I wanted to scream,” DeFord explained via video. “I just didn’t say it, but every time somebody squeezed me, dude, I thought I was gonna cry."
He explained that he wanted to share the accident after reminiscing about the hugs he received at the award show and how he was “out there running all over the Grammys with a broken collarbone.”

Just after DeFord took to Instagram with the story, his wife, Bunnie XO, also posted about the accident. Her video depicts DeFord in a hospital bed with a brace around his neck, smiling and making faces at the camera. Bunnie XO laughs and tells him, “You are not gangster,” to which DeFord responds, “I’m a f***in’ country boy now.”
Since the accident, DeFord said that he’s been afraid to hop back in the saddle. He explained, though, that he acknowledged the accident “was all user error” and encouraged viewers to face their fears.
“Moral of the story: Get back on that pony, baby,” he said.
