Grammy-winning musician Kacey Musgraves recently took an unusual approach with her forthcoming album’s promotional campaign, giving a packed crowd of unsuspecting Robert’s Western World patrons the country music surprise of a lifetime. In the midst of promoting her May 1 release, Middle of Nowhere, the singer stepped up to the honky tonk stage as Ronnie Dunn on Saturday night, performing the Brooks & Dunn smash hit, “Neon Moon.”

Musgraves arrived ready to go, fully decked out in a wig, facial hair, aviators, and even

sporting Dunn’s gigantic “cowboy” tattoo on her forearm. The performance started off mellow, with Musgraves eventually moving around the stage and transitioning into some slightly provocative dance moves. The costume was so thorough that many fans didn’t recognize her until she began singing. Musgraves’ feature on the 2019 Brooks & Dunn Reboot album version of “Neon Moon” makes her rendition of the tune easy to distinguish.

Multiple videos of the prank were posted online. Even the official Robert’s Western World Instagram posted the performance, under which Ronnie Dunn wrote “Damn, I look good,” in the comments. Dunn also left comments under multiple videos of the performance and even shared the video on his Instagram story.

Musgraves later posted a video in her full Dunn getup, slowly waltzing up to the camera, writing “Omw to end your dry spell,” a reference to her recently released single “Dry Spell.” In a comment under her own post, Musgraves wrote “Btw Ronnie did nothing to deserve this."
