Koe Wetzel and Ella Langley are back together, but fans are already debating whether their new collaboration can top the song that started it all.

The two ever growing stars reunited for “Jaded,” released Friday, Aug. 7, marking their first collaboration since the Gold-certified “That’s Why We Fight.” Four years later, both artists sound noticeably different, with “Jaded” showcasing more polished vocals and the maturity that has come with years of touring, recording and career growth.

That evolution has not gone unnoticed by listeners.

After Fort Nash asked fans to choose between the two collaborations, several praised the vocal development heard on “Jaded,” with one listener commenting that the song “shows the growth in both of their voices.” Others said the songs occupy completely different lanes and were difficult to compare, while some connected more personally with the heartbreak behind “Jaded.”

Still, the strongest reaction leaned toward “That’s Why We Fight.”

Fans repeatedly pointed back to the rawness, energy and chemistry of the 2022 collaboration, with several calling it the clear favorite. One of the most-liked comments simply called for Wetzel and Langley to re-release the song, while another fan said the track was what originally turned them into an “Ella Fella / Koe Bro.”

That response highlights the biggest difference between the two records.

“That’s Why We Fight” feels volatile and immediate. The writing plays into the combustible relationship at the center of the song, while Wetzel and Langley’s rougher vocals give the performance an almost live-wire quality. It arrived before either artist had reached their current level of mainstream success, and that unpolished energy remains part of what fans appear to love about it.

“Jaded,” meanwhile, sounds like two artists who have spent the past four years refining their voices.

Blending Wetzel’s rock and grunge influences with Langley’s unmistakable country delivery, “Jaded” has a larger and more polished production style. Their vocals are stronger and more controlled, and the song trades some of the explosive back-and-forth of “That’s Why We Fight” for a heavier, more reflective kind of heartbreak.

The track follows two people attempting to move forward while memories from the past continue hanging over their relationship. Wetzel and Langley trade perspectives throughout the song, giving both sides of a relationship that has been worn down over time.

Co-written by Wetzel, Langley, Jordan Schmidt and ERNEST, “Jaded” also serves as another addition to Wetzel’s The Night Champion era.

The reunion carries extra weight considering how much has changed since the pair first worked together. Langley has previously discussed Wetzel being one of the first artists she collaborated and toured with, joining him on the road in 2022. “That’s Why We Fight” arrived while both artists were still building toward the careers they have today.

Four years later, Wetzel has continued expanding his blend of country, alternative rock and grunge on increasingly larger stages, while Langley has emerged as one of country music’s biggest stars.

That makes the fan debate around the two songs even more interesting.

“Jaded” may showcase a more mature Koe Wetzel and Ella Langley vocally, but maturity does not automatically replace the magic of an original. For many fans, the messiness, writing and reckless energy of “That’s Why We Fight” remain difficult to beat.

Others see “Jaded” as evidence of exactly how far the two have come.

Either way, four years after their first collaboration, Wetzel and Langley have given fans another reason to argue over which version of the duo they like best.
